Haboob Hits Phoenix Sky Harbor, Grounds Hundreds of Flights

A massive haboob rolled over Phoenix on Aug. 25, 2025, creating a wall of dust nearly 10,000 feet high. The storm forced more than 40 flights to divert, delayed 300+ departures and flooded Terminal 4. Power loss touched 52,000 residents while drivers battled near‑zero visibility. Crews repaired the airport overnight and operations resumed by Tuesday morning.

Two German travelers spent more than a week fighting heat, mud, and crocodile country after a wrong turn from Google Maps sent them into a closed national park in remote Cape York. Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected before the first snap of the season opener after spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott during an injury delay.
